about
As hardcore began to subside in the late-‘80s, Annapolis, Maryland’s Hated faced a sonic confluence of speed and melody. They chose melody. On 1988’s “Someone” vocalist/guitarist Erik Fisher trades the political for the personal, pondering his fading adolescence and the scene changing around him. Colin Meeder’s return on bass after a two year absence is felt acutely in the warm strums that echo Dan Littleton’s distortion-free guitar jangle. Drummer Ken Hill holds the explosive session together, guiding the song’s multiple pulse and dynamic volume changes over the course of an unrelenting five minutes. A prime example of early emo, “Someone” picks up where Revolution Summer left off and points towards the punk evolution to come.
A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer

If I had a time machine, I wouldn't use it to go back and do gravity bong rips with Jesus or put a bouncing Betty landmine in Baby Hitler's nappy... No, I would only use it to go back and watch Mohinder play live once again.
Over and over and over again Blxculx
